Radnor Lake

Radnor Lake is located in Nashville and is arguably one of the Music City’s best outdoor settings. Radnor Lake is a designated conservation area, which implies that wildlife is in plenty and the plant life is bountiful. The hiking trails at Radnor Lake are in perfect shape, the most popular being the Ganier Ridge Trail, a 1.7-mile hiking trail that runs across the ridge. You may also want to consider the South Cove and South Lake trails that make a loop around the lake. Note, however, bike riding, pet walking, and running has strictly been restricted to paved trails.

Sewanee Perimeter Trail

Head over to the University of Sewanee, located in Sewanee, only 80 miles from Nashville. The Perimeter Trail is a 50-mile loop around the campus. The path mainly runs around the plateau rim, so the walk should be relatively easy as longs as you are psyched for it. Nonetheless, you will encounter a rocky patch (literally) on a section known as the ‘Rocky Bluffs’. You can also choose to explore the Perimeter Trail over several visits; you can take advantage of the shuttle if you get tired and hitch a ride to the end of the trail. Just be sure to note where you left off so you can pick up from there next time.

South Cumberland State Park

The South Cumberland State Park is located in South East Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau. The park is split into two major sections, the Fiery Gizzard and the Savage Gulf. Both sections have camping sites, trails, and waterfalls. We, however, recommend that you try the Fiery Gizzard Trail, a 13-mile one-way trail that links the Foster Falls to the Grundy Forest. Here you will experience cascading streams, beautiful rock formations, rocky gorges, lush woodlands, and panoramic backdrops. This is truly a natural arcadia that you should not miss out on.
